The Typewriter is Back
24th October 2017
I think because of the crazy fast pace of modern life, and in particular technology, we hanker after the old, the retro, the vintage. However modern efficiency is not so easy to let go of – enter the Qwerkywriter.
They’ve hit the nail of the head with this one. We have a vintage typewriter in our studio, a find of Carl’s proudly printed with ‘Royal Typewriter Company, New York’. It a piece of beautiful design, but in no way usable. We also illustrated the Olivetti Valentine for one of our design classics, loving the shape and how it oozes style. As visually wonderful as these links to the past are, they are just not practical for modern life. Designer Brian Min wanted to take the fun, and quirkiness of the typewriter but make it compatible with pretty much any modern device. Through the medium of crowdfunding Min’s dream has become a reality! The Qwerkywriter uses bluetooth to connect and maintains that tactic experience sometimes missing from your modern keyboard.
